about

This is a recording of the only gig by the band 'explosions of a river of' sounding like an extremely jet-lagged version of The Residents, undergoing a bad divorce. The gig was recorded at Enjoy Gallery in Wellington, New Zealand in 2006.

Musicians:
Bongo Brawny - Drums
Yoko McDonalds - Synth
Lusty Trusty Rusty - Keyboard
Romeo Skypilot - Vocals

The band was formed to cover songs written by Douglas Bagnall's 'Music industry simulator', an online song-writing machine that auto-wrote songs based on the parameters of other pop examples, which were fed into a computer which was connected to a midi system of musical instruments, which in turn, tried to replicate the examples. Refinement came via an audience-based chart, who voted certain songs up, and thereby established 'popular' notions of good taste, good songwriting, bad songwriting, etc. This was sometimes interrupted by the random event of a 'drug-related death', in which one of fictional musicians / songwriters would 'die' therefore removing this type of song from the chart, clearing the way for newcomers. The band members took on the names of the 'musicians' but were otherwise recognisable participants in the local rock and improv scene then and now.
